Relationships That Heal: Building a Community to Combat Childhood Trauma – ACEs Connection – Laura Porter, a former county commissioner in Washington State is now the co-founder of ACE Interface, an organization that provides schools and communities with the tools to combat childhood trauma. Dworkin, a senior fellow at the University Of Washington School Of Medicine in Seattle, studies how the social interactions of trauma survivors can affect their recovery. She was also the lead author of a paper published in the journal Clinical Psychology Review in 2017 that looked through more than 100,000 studies conducted in the last 50 years and found nearly 200 relevant ones on the relationship between sexual assault and mental health to analyze.

  21. How Native American Children Benefit From Trauma-Informed Schools – In Montana, a school that serves mostly Native American children is in one of the State’s 10 Wraparound programs. The schools in this Wraparound program are using trauma-sensitive practices to address children’s mental health, behavioral, and academic issues. The goal of this program is to create schools where adults from the principal to the lunch room personnel consistently respond to children with empathy and compassion. According to the National Association of School Psychologists, trauma-sensitive schools create safety for students who may have experienced trauma.

It shows that better prevention of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) through combined actions of public services may reduce levels of common childhood conditions, improve school attendance and help alleviate pressures on public services.

Healing Health Care: Addressing Trauma in Primary Care – Remarking that addressing trauma in an individual’s life isn’t a matter of the latest treatment fad as it can be a matter of life and death, this article demonstrates how evident it is for primary care to identify and address trauma.
