  1. Baltimore: A Trauma and Resilience Informed City for Children and Families – This report highlights the efforts of nine participating teams in Baltimore to recognize resilience and trauma; and how each affect children, families, and communities. It explores the connection between race, racism, resilience, and trauma in an effort to strengthen resilience of children and their families.
  2. Teacher’s Guide to Trauma – ACEs Connection – This brief news story advertises an excellent resource for teachers and school administrators to help create trauma-informed schools and classrooms. This 20-step manual chronicles the story of a child’s journey through the school system and provides specific information and strategies for use with children who have experienced trauma in schools.
  3. Shasta County, CA using videos to educate, activate & celebrate – ACEs Connection – Four videos highlighting some of the work happening in Shasta County. According to one of the providers speaking towards the end of one video - patients/clients had positively "profound" responses to learning about their ACEs - and they felt empowered to do what they could do to not have their children have the same experience.
  4. Toolkit for Building Survivor-Informed Organizations: Trauma-Informed Resources and Survivor-Informed Practices To Support and Collaborate with Survivors of Human Trafficking as Professionals – ACF – This Toolkit is a collection of new and existing resources that build organizational capacity to collaborate with and support staff, volunteers, and consultants who identify as survivor leaders. The Toolkit is appropriate for anti-trafficking organizations, coalitions, task forces, volunteer programs, and other organizations who wish to improve collaboration with those affected by human trafficking.
  5. What Does it Take to Become Trauma-Informed? Lessons from Early Adopters - Center for Health Care Strategies – Trauma-informed care has emerged as a core competency to improve how health care organizations deliver services to people who have experienced adverse life events. Through the Advancing Trauma-Informed Care (ATC) initiative, and with support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Center for Health Care Strategies convened innovators in the field to build on existing trauma-informed efforts and share lessons nationally.
  6. Making MAT Part Of Your Service Line Portfolio – OPEN MINDS – This article talks about how it is important to review reimbursement rates and state regulations when it comes to medication assisted treatment (MAT). It makes an argument for providing more integrated MAT services in healthcare organizations.
  7. H.O.P.E. – ACEs Connection – This article presents the opening of a trauma healing organization in Indiana named HOPE (Haven of Peace and Empowerment). The organization serves as a grassroots community outreach program for those that have been impacted by trauma in their lives.
  8. We All Have a Role in Preventing ACEs -Veto Violence CDC – This training will help you understand, recognize, and prevent ACEs. You’ll learn about risk and protective factors, outcomes associated with ACEs, and evidence-based strategies you can use to reduce or eliminate the impact of ACEs and stop them from occurring in the first place.
  9. Building Community Resilience Expands, AcesConnection.com – Building Community Resilience will be hosting a Town Hall in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, April 19th at 3pm in person or via live stream to share lessons learned in implementing the BCR process. BCR national team at the Sumner M.   13. H.Res.443 - Recognizing the importance and effectiveness of trauma-informed care, Congress.gov -- Last week, the House of Representatives unanimously passed H. Res. 443 recognizing the importance, need for and effectiveness of trauma-informed care (TIC). The bill acknowledges the effectiveness of considering a patient’s adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) in the design of their treatment plan, recommends the use of TIC in federal health programs and expresses support for the creation of a National Trauma Awareness Month and a National Trauma-Informed Awareness Day. While Congressional resolutions do not carry funding, this move does signal Congress’ growing support for TIC.
  14. New Director of Office of Drug Control Policy Shares Vision, Register-Herald.com – Dr. Michael Brumage was recently appointed Director of the Office of Drug Control Policy and plans to take a more trauma-informed approach to the opioid epidemic, discussing the role ACEs play as risk factors to substance use disorder. Brumage previously served as director of the Kanawha-Charleston Health department, establishing the state’s second harm reduction program to help reduce rate of hepatitis B and C as well as HIV.

At an HIV Clinic, Patients and Staff Have a Voice in Shaping Trauma-Informed Care, AcesConnection.com-This particular HIV clinic incorporates trauma informed care in that they have therapy dogs, massage tables, and breakfast with providers before being treated. One of their patients was murdered in 2010 along with other patients dying from trauma related causes, and it caused the office to look at what was occurring in the lives of their patients, causing them to completely change their office. They have also completely changed how they ask their patients about substance abuse, because it takes away the stigma and allows them to be comfortable.
