This California Mom Wants to Beat the Odds – KQED News – Emotional neglect, physical abuse, divorce, a household riven by addiction — science shows that traumas like these in childhood cause poorer health later in life, both mentally and physically. After a very difficult upbringing and early adulthood, Sabrina Hanes is doing everything she can to overcome the trauma she experienced and give her daughter, Aroara, the best possible life.
  2. Relationships That Heal: Building a Community to Combat Childhood Trauma – ACEs Connection – Laura Porter, a former county commissioner in Washington State is now the co-founder of ACE Interface, an organization that provides schools and communities with the tools to combat childhood trauma. She asked teenagers in a survey: If you could have one helpful thing in your life, what would it be? It was part of her research to get a handle on what was happening with young people in her community.
  3. Disaster relief is about more than healing physical trauma. But as communities in places like Texas and Puerto Rico are learning, disaster relief that only alleviates physical wants is not enough to put their communities back on their feet.

From Trauma Informed To Trauma Transformed: Achieving Post-Traumatic GROWTH for the Youths In Our Most Disenfranchised Public Schools and Communities - ACEs Connection – Roberto Rivera was a troubled, addicted youth engaged in criminal behavior who discovered his path to transformation in the pit of his traumatic pain.  He harnessed the fire of early childhood trauma to change himself from being a problem to being a solution, not just in his own life, but also in the lives of many, many other under-privileged and under-performing young people.

The Trauma-Sensitive Parenting Summit & Commentary - ACEs Connection – The book Parenting from the Inside Out: How A Deeper Self-Understanding Can Help You Raise Children Who Thrive, which was published fifteen freaking years ago co-written by Daniel Siegel and Mary Hartzell. Siegel will be the keynote opening up the Trauma-Sensitive Parenting Summit. It discussed parenting and different techniques for parenting children who have gone through trauma with special attention to children who are adopted.

Addressing historical and childhood trauma: Why native people across the country are gathering in San Diego in October – ACEs Connection – This article serves as an advertisement for a trauma-related event in San Diego. The event brought together a number of well-regarded childhood trauma experts and therapists.

As foster care teens enter adulthood, obstacles mount, report finds Washington Post – Teenagers transitioning from foster care to adulthood face obstacles that leave them trailing their peers in education, employment, housing and early parenthood, according to a report that for the first time gathers foster care data from all 50 states.

Live Video Discussion on mental health needs of children, youth & families experiencing homelessness.,facebook.com- SAMHSA, The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, provided a live video on November 30, 2017 to inform the public about how homelessness is a form of trauma in itself, not just a state, and impacts the mental health of children and families who are experiencing homelessness.

  13. The Silence: The Legacy of Childhood Trauma, NewYorker.com-This resource tells a story of childhood trauma in first person. The child never told anyone, nor received any help, and the story discusses the impact and consequences of the trauma. Finally, this person received treatment and help.
  14. A Guide for Youth Understanding Trauma, YouthMoveNational.org — This 7-page guide defines trauma and outlines its impacts and action steps with youth-focused graphics and language.
